“While you are proclaiming peace with your lips,
be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.”
— St. Francis of Assisi
The Franciscan friars remain steadfastly dedicated in ministries to the people of God as we continue to further the Gospel message.
We continue to find new ways to support the current needs of the community, our current ministries, and to plan for the future care of our friars.
There is much more to do. What are the hungers of the world? Who is waiting to be fed? Who is in need of God’s love? We long to continue our work to reach out with the bread of compassion, mercy and peace. Every hour of work, every bit of effort and every dollar spent to make the presence of God known through our ministries are the best investments we can make in the lives of those we serve.
With many new and ongoing opportunities for service and ministry, our need for financial assistance continues. Since each of our friars makes a life commitment to God and takes a vow of poverty as well as chastity and obedience, we rely solely on our Province to provide for the friars’ basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and medical care. As members of a religious community, we are not supported by local dioceses.
We are dependent on the generosity of benefactors to continue our many ministries. In particular, we need assistance in two crucial areas: the education and formation of our newer friars, and the care our elderly and infirmed. Your support of the Franciscan friars of the St. Barbara Province will ensure our presence in the western United States — and throughout the world — for decades to come.
