“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” — St. Francis of Assisi
Jesus said that “where two or more are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Mt 18: 20). That is the crux of Franciscan parish ministry.
Currently, more than 25 percent of the friars of the St. Barbara Province serve in a variety of parishes, spanning California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.
The Franciscan friars do not “own” parishes, but rather staff them for local dioceses. The friars in the parishes contribute to the province through their salaries, their support of Franciscan missions through special collections, their promotion of vocations and their generous support of the educational and special ministries work of the friars.
The St. Barbara Province is responsible for the pastoral care of 24 parishes, six of which are located on Native American reservations. Our parishes include:
Santa Barbara, California 93105
San Francisco, California 94102
