How to Become a Friar

When you contact the Franciscan Vocations Office you will receive information about our Province and discernment to religious life.

Vocation director Br. Eric Pilarcik, OFM, is available to speak with you about your interest in the friars and answer any questions that you may have. He will also provide ongoing information, guidance and support to assist you with your discernment process. If you would like to get to know a friar and gain insight into everyday friar life, arrangements can be made for you to talk to a friar in your area.

Our office also offers a variety of opportunities - including "Come and See" weekends and "Spend a Day with the Friars" - to get a taste of our way of life and ministries. These events are held from September thru April at different friaries throughout the Province in the hope that one or more will be convenient to you and fit into your schedule.

Should you decide to pursue further discernment you will enter into conversation with members of the vocation team regarding your call to religious life. You will work with a spiritual director and wherever possible be connected with a discernment group. You will also have an opportunity to visit and speak with student friars about their experiences in initial formation.

If you are invited to apply, your application will be considered by the Admissions Committee. Committee members are appointed by the Provincial Minister to make determinations regarding admission into our initial formation program.
