“As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.”
— John 13:34
Like our founder, St. Francis of Assisi, the Franciscan friars of the St. Barbara Province are persons of prayer involved in the world around us. Our charism is not to any specific task or ministry. Rather, our primary call is to be brothers — among ourselves, to all people, and to all of God’s creation.
As friars, we seek to respond to this call by our willingness to be sent, serve, and proclaim Christ’s Gospel of love to all. Franciscans are especially committed to live out the church’s preferential option for the poor.
Eight centuries after St. Francis formed his band of brothers, his love of peace and care for creation continue to be ingrained in our hearts, our work, and our everyday lives.
